Summary: This document from 2002 presents the expression of interest to host the European Spallation source in Scandinavia. This is a joint Swedish, Danish and Norwegian initiative. The expression of interest was submitted by the ESS Scandinavia Consortium. Eight universities, five research institutes, three regional research organisations, the national neutron scattering organisations in Sweden, Denmark and Norway, and the local political authorities are members of the consortium. This document demonstrates the feasibility of siting the ESS just to the north east of the city of Lund, with respect to technical, scientific, social requirements.
