The Öresund region already offers internationally recognised research services within many fields, but an international, multi-scientific research centre such as ESS will naturally have a huge impact on the region’s position in the research community. Not least, the Öresund region’s position as one of the world’s leading clusters within biotechnology and life science will be strengthened.
The region will also attract several research-intensive companies and many of the best students, researchers and ideas – not to mention leading materials researchers, biologists, physicists, chemists and engineers from all over the world. It is also likely that the integration between the Öresund region’s universities becomes strengthened.
As at other large research centres, many of the guest researchers will most probably establish collaborations with universities and companies in the region in order to actualise their projects. Since the visiting users/guest researchers will be among the leading European researchers, chosen due to the high quality of their research projects, we can expect a significant intellectual influx into Sweden and into the whole of Scandinavia.
