More than 60 accelerator scientists and engineers met in Lund at the 4th CERN SPL collaboration meeting from 30 June to 2 July, to discuss SuperConducting Radio Frequency (SC RF) technology.  It is the first time the collaboration has met outside CERN.

The collaboration was originally formed to bring together European and worldwide experts on SC RF to work on a high power Superconducting Proton Linac that might be built at CERN.  However, the collaboration is now evolving to also support collaborative efforts for similar projects, such as the ESS.

On the first day of the meeting the participants considered an overview of worldwide efforts on high power pulsed and continuous beam proton linacs.  More detailed topics are now being examined, such as RF power delivery systems, cavities, cryostats, normal conducting front end end components and facilities infrastructure.

The collaboration meeting gives the ESS accelerator team the opportunity to present the preparatory work for the Design Update project to an audience of experts. We will integrate all the valuable feedback we are receiving into our project plans, and we are strengthening links to possible future collaborators.
