A press release from the Swedish Ministry of Education today says it’s definite that the research facility ESS (European Spallation Source) will be built in Lund. At a meeting in Stockholm Sweden and Spain, the main competitors, agreed to collaborate. Spain declared that they no longer is a candidate in building the facility. Spain will contribute to the project with large economic resources. In Spain a facility for testing of components to ESS will be built and a factory for manufacturing of certain components to the facility. - It’s been clear since the meeting in Brussels last Thursday that Sweden will host ESS, but we save time now that our Spanish friends declared that they too accept this decision, I believe that we together can build a spallation source in Sweden that will be the best in the world, says Lars Leijonborg, minister of research and higher education. - This is a very good solution. We need competence from other parts of Europe and I believe that this will strengthen our facility, says professor Colin Carlile, Director of ESS Scandinavia.
